Effective Development Leveraging the Visual Accountmate Development Model
Accountmate Software has purposely designed and developed the core software code and database of the Visual Accountmate (VAM) system with third party developers in mind.

Our approach at Realistic Solution with the development of VAM/Drill is to take full advantage of the Visual Accountmate code set, design, object orientation and methodology.

By developing on top of the core code set of VAM, we are able to enhance and bring to you the VAM user, additional functionality within the VAM software system, without compromising the original solid core software code set.

VAM/Drill does not modify any of the original VAM forms/screens or programs.

The VAM/Drill code set and database tables are completely independent and separate.

VAM/Drill protects your investment in Visual Accountmate and your ability to upgrade to the latest version of Visual Accountmate.

The following is an overview of the basic VAM/Drill development approach.

VAM/Drill Development Approach:
VAM/Drill "look & feel":
By sub-classing the original VAM code set, the VAM/Drill forms and programs have an identical VAM look & feel.

If your users are familiar and trained on the VAM software system, there will be an immediate understanding and familiarity with the VAM/Drill system.

There is virtually no learning curve for users to be competent in the use of the VAM/Drill software.

This means there is no additional training or education costs to implementing and using VAM/Drill.

VAM software upgrades and new releases:

Because VAM/Drill has initially been developed by sub-classing the original VAM objects and code set, your ability to upgrade to new and better versions of Visual Accountmate is completely protected and available to you as a Visual Accountmate customer.

When Accountmate Software introduces or offers an update or upgrade to their existing VAM software system, we can quickly recompile our VAM/Drill modules using the updated VAM code set and objects and VAM/Drill will immediately be ready for running on the updated Visual Accountmate software release.

By using the code objects available within VAM, VAM/Drill will require virtually no code or programming modifications other than a recompile using the newest version of the VAM software release.

Visual Accountmate User Modifications:

Because VAM/Drill does not modify any existing VAM code, any specific modifications you have made to VAM will not be effected by VAM/Drill. Your custom modifications are completely protected and will not be over-written by installing and using VAM/Drill.

However, as VAM/Drill sub-classes off of the original VAM code set, any update capabilities you decide to use from within the VAM/Drill update construct, will not include your user customization, only the capabilities from the original VAM code will be available from within the VAM/Drill update programs.

VAM/Drill DataBase Tables:

VAM/Drill does not modify any VAM database tables, fields or other database objects.

The tables created and used by VAM/Drill are in either the Microsoft SQL or IBM DB2/400 SQL databases and follow standard SQL design and construct. As such, the data in the VAM/Drill tables are available for query and reporting just as any other table is from within the VAM database.

The core database table in VAM/Drill that provides the drill-down information data, is updated automatically whenever you complete a transaction in VAM. Because our data is created and updated independently of the VAM system, the VAM/Drill information data set is available regardless of when or how you choose to close your financial periods. VAM/Drill drill-down data is available on-line whenever a transaction is completed or a g/l transfer is run.

VAM/Drill Security:

Because of VAM/Drill's initial sub-classing technique, we are able to easily conform to the VAM user security profiles. Whatever rights and privileges a VAM user has normally, the same rights and privileges will apply from with the VAM/Drill modules. Additionally, each VAM/Drill option will be available in the appropriate module for the granting or denying of user/group access rights, as is standard with any VAM program.

If a VAM user does not have rights to run a specific update from within VAM, then that user will not be able run the corresponding update program from within VAM/Drill.

VAM/Drill - Technology Advantage:

The VAM/Drill technology advantage is clear! VAM/Drill takes the proven development code base of the Visual Accountmate (VAM) system, capitalizes on that methodology and design to bring enterprise software like drill-down and on-line inquiry capabilities to VAM.

Differentiate between the value of Visual Accountmate and VAM/Drill and most other enterprise type software solutions. The partnership of VAM and VAM/Drill gives you the same benefits and features as those much higher priced solutions, at a cost to your business to buy, implement and run that is a far more cost effective and efficient!
